Healing begins with human connection.
Last Sunday, our outreach event had seven incredible volunteers. Each brings unique life experiences and talents to share with our friends living on Boston’s streets.
As we set up the BRF wagons with clothes, sandwiches, fruit, and snacks, we often encounter people who are tired and hurting. Sometimes, the physical pain is evident, while the emotional pain is more profound. Our volunteers offer smiles, brownies, fruit, or water to everyone who walks by. We witness transformation as people smile and engage in conversations with us. We remind them that their circumstances don’t define them, that their stories have value, and that recovery is possible. We provide resources for healing. In addition to clothes and food, we offer assistance with addiction treatment. When someone is ready, we help them arrange for detox, hospital treatment or housing resources.
Healing can sometimes start with talking about addiction or other struggles. Other times, it’s simply about human connection and understanding. We witness the positive results of those we’ve brought to treatment. Some of them have become our most dedicated volunteers.
This is a team effort, and every member is crucial to our mission of helping people restore their lives. We are grateful to the Boston Backpack Project for their generous donations of much-needed clothing. Elaine Mitrano and Denise Martwichuck rescued us when we were in dire need. You are truly amazing.
A special shoutout to our volunteer, Alex, who brought fashionable clothes she purchased for those in need. Lynda’s chocolate chip cookies were a hit this weekend.
We are indebted to our incredible volunteer, Ronnie. You embody the spirit of The Boston Recovery Foundation. Your compassionate sharing of your story with our friends struggling with addiction and homelessness, coupled with your understanding of their pain and fears, is invaluable.
To all our volunteers, you are beacons of hope and compassion. Without you, this wouldn’t be possible.
