This past Sunday, the weather was milder, but our friends living on the streets still required warm clothing. We consider not only the daytime temperatures but also the nighttime chill when there’s no refuge from the cold. Our wonderful volunteers distributed clothing, shoes, sandwiches, snacks, water, and fresh fruit to about 100 people. Grapes, strawberries, and bananas are treats that people can’t get enough of. While people appreciate these essential gifts and treats, the greatest gift our volunteers offer is conversation and human connection. Through these interactions, individuals can share their struggles, trauma, suffering, needs, and hopes. Our compassionate volunteers listen, provide support, referrals, and resources to help them start their recovery process.
While providing clothing and food is a valuable and necessary service, the ultimate goal of the Boston Recovery Foundation is to encourage and facilitate treatment for those battling substance use disorder. A shout out to our fantastic team: Eddy, our co-founder back from school, Q, a generous and unflappable supporter, Cowboy Jack, representing BC, Brittany and Debbie, who prove recovery is possible, Davy, Boston’s gift from Kansas, and Jeff, a partner and supporter of our work since the early days. Thank you all. You’re making the world a better place for everyone.
