Berk participated in the Locked In Solidarity conference at High Rock Church in Arlington, which aimed to raise awareness about reentry challenges, maintain the conversation, and unify resources to aid successful transitions for individuals being released from incarceration.

Research indicates that approximately 80% of incarcerated individuals have a history of substance use disorder, and 70% have a mental health history. Additionally, untreated trauma is prevalent among the prison population. Without addressing these critical issues, successful reintegration post-release is unlikely. High Rock Church is actively engaged in prison ministry, with volunteers visiting Norfolk Prison and the Shirley facility. They also have a project to support former inmates. Berk was particularly impressed by their hands-on approach to this significant issue.
